This is how I setup remote desktop connection on windows environment. I am using Windows 7 OS for demonstration. This is very useful when you are going to take control of Windows computer remotely like on your office local LAN or even connecting via internet. Accepting Remote ConnectionIf you want to control your windows pc remotely using Remote Desktop Connection, you will have to set your computer to accept remote connections from other computer. On your windows computer, open Computer Properties then Advance System Settings. Then click on Remote tab. Click on Allow connections from computers. Better to choose the third option for security reasons. Then select the users you want to allow connecting to this computer for remote connections. If the computer that wants remote connection to this computer is found only on your network, then it can connect easily. But if you want other computers to connect from the internet, then you need to port-forward this computer by choosing an open port number so that others can connect via internet. You can do port-forwarding using your router. Make sure the port you are using is not blocked by your firewall. Connecting To Remote Desktop ComputerTo connect to a computer using Remote Desktop on Windows, Open Accessories then click on Remote Desktop Connection. Computer - you can enter a valid computer name found on your network. You can also use the ip address of the computer you want to remotely control. If you are using the internet, then you can enter the public ip address of that computer with the port number to make the connection.
